- I know what you’re thinking: wait – TWO Abby’s Saturday posts in a row featuring Derrick?
Yes, that’s right.
Last weekend was his birthday.
And this weekend is Father’s Day.
So, you get to see Derrick’s face twice in two weeks.
(If you want to see past Father’s Day photos – they’re here! #356, #304, #251, #204) - SO – what did we do this week?
It was Derrick’s birthday week, so we went roller coaster riding, of course!!
Last Friday, we loaded up and drove in a direction that we have NEVER driven before: WEST.
It took us the same amount of time as a drive down to Orlando – but a completely different direction.
We went to Branson, Missouri and Silver Dollar City!!
Silver Dollar City has been on our “bucket list” for years and when Derrick asked me where I wanted to go this year, I said: “Silver Dollar City.” And so, we made it happen for Derrick’s birthday.
I don’t want to give away too many stories and details of our trip, because I’ll have a full blog post with photos and videos coming soon, but I did want to share that we were blessed to not make this trip alone! My Mom and sister Ruby came along with us! It was so much fun to have them along – they made the drive more enjoyable by having other adults to talk to, they made our time in the theme park more seamless by having more eyeballs on our kiddos (and our kids LOVED having them along!), and they made our adventures around Branson more exciting by sharing their ideas on where we should go, where we should eat, and what we should do.
Not only did we have my Mom and sister with us, and not only was Derrick celebrating his birthday, but Derrick rode his 300th roller coaster at Silver Dollar City! (In case you aren’t familiar, most roller coaster enthusiasts keep track of how many roller coasters they’ve ridden – called their “coaster count”).
OH AND: our trip was extra special because Derrick got special permission from the park to come in early and film a few POV’s of a few rides! It was truly an honor and one he did not take lightly!
Overall, we had the most fantastic time and I can’t wait to share more!! - We got home Wednesday evening, cleaned out the car, unpacked, and went to bed. Little did we know that we’d be woken up a few hours later by a fevered Braelynn crawling into our bed, crying that she wasn’t feeling well.
Poor Braelynn came down with a 24-hour stomach bug just a few hours after we got home from our trip. Words cannot describe how thankful we were to be HOME with a sick kiddo, instead of in a hotel or on the road.
So far, Derrick, Leander, and I have escaped the bug – let’s hope it stays that way! - Sickness aside: coming home from a big trip on a Wednesday night was WEIRD. I’ve been super confused all week as to what day it is – a Thursday that feels like a Monday?! And suddenly it’s Saturday?
- I (finally) published our vlog from our day at Magic Kingdom last night. I’ve been working on it for weeks – I really wanted to take my time and make it just right, to encapsulate all of the emotions, happiness, and magic of the day. I’m thrilled with how it turned out! (I’ll post more about our day later this week, but you can watch the vlog right now HERE.)
- I’m off to photograph an engagement session today! It feels like it’s been forever since the last time I shot an engagement session – I’m so excited!
