- Happy 400th Abby’s Saturday!!
I can’t even wrap my brain around that number: four hundred.
I NEVER would have guessed that this little “challenge” I decided to give myself (that I started back in 2013) would bring me 9 years into the future & 400 published photos later (with literally thousands of images hitting the cutting room floor)!!
I can say, with confidence, I would not be the photographer I am today without this weekly challenge of taking photos of my dog. I have learned more about light, composition, and camera settings with this “series” (can you call 400 images a “series”?) of images then anything else. I’ve stretched myself to try new things, think out of the box, and broaden my creativity.
I’m just thankful we have such a wonderful, patient, chill dog that doesn’t mind me taking her photo every week! - It snowed this week. I can’t even get over how crazy the weather has been this spring. Our trees and bushes and flowers still haven’t bloomed because of how up and down the weather has been (and I’m afraid our flowering-bushes might never actually bloom this year thanks to the snow this week – everything froze!)
- The Just Between Friends sale at the Monroeville Convention Center was this week! I love this sale – it’s a massive kids consignment sale and it makes my little thrift-loving-heart SO happy! I love the “treasure-hunting” aspect of it – you never know what you’re going to find and that surprise-delight factor is so much fun! For example: Braelynn and Leander have been super obsessed with The Lion King recently, but since it’s not a “current” thing, you can’t just go to Target and pick up some Lion King merch. I wasn’t specifically looking for Lion King stuff, but when I stumbled across a bag of figures + a Nala and Simba plush, I felt like I hit the jackpot!
I honestly didn’t buy as much as I normally buy at the sale though – mostly because Braelynn and Leander didn’t need very much for summer. I did find the few specific things I was looking for (a swim shirt, shorts, and summer PJs for Leander, a few summer dresses for Braelynn), but mostly, I’m just happy to sell some of my own stuff, make a little extra cash, and pick up a few fun new toys! - The kids and Derrick have all been getting over colds and coughs this week. Thankfully, I never picked it up (knock on wood), but they’ve been all boogery and coughing all week. Leander was the first one to pick it up and he’s still coughing – and it’s been 2 weeks now! It seems like it’s the never-ending-cold.
- Owning your own business comes with it’s fair share of pros and cons. And one of those cons people rarely talk about though is being your own IT/tech department. I built a website for my new business: Abbey Family Documentaries a few months ago, but I’ve been continuously tweaking and adjusting it – it’s still a work in progress. Well, last week, I realized that something seemed to be wrong with the home page. I could not get it to load on a Chrome browser – it kept crashing (it worked fine on Safari). I did a bunch of research, trying to figure out what was going on, and then finally reached out to the company who my site is built through. They were fantastic at digging into the back-end of my site – helping me clean up a bunch of “dead” files (like 40,000 “dead” files!), giving me suggestions to make things run faster, and helping me streamline things. It’s been quite the process, but I’m just happy to finally have my site completely back up and running! Running your own business is definitely a roller coaster ride!
- This week has been prepping and packing week! Lots of laundry, lots of lists, lots of last minute Target runs! Vacation – here we come!
