I’ve been to Washington DC three times now.
The first time was on a bus tour – I was around 10 years old and my family & grandparents took a bus tour down to DC. I vividly remember seeing the monuments, visiting Arlington Cemetary, and walking for hours.
The second time was on Derrick & I’s 2nd anniversary. We booked a hotel & explored DC for a weekend. I vividly remember it being crazy hot, us not being able to find food and/or water (we only had credit cards and all the little food trucks only took cash), and us standing (for hours) figuring out the subway system.
The third time was just a few weeks ago! We went to visit Derrick’s cousin, her husband, and their little guy! They have been living in DC for the last year & since we recently reconnected with them, we had to go visit them before the military moved them a distance that requires an airplane over a car.
Derrick & his cousin Kristin grew up as best friends. They were the mischievous pair – the ones most likely to be found climbing trees and getting in trouble. Getting older and not living on the same side of the country anymore, they aren’t quite as close as they used to be – but that is only the more reasons for us to go down & visit!
It was a quick trip, but it felt just perfect. DC is only about 3 hours from where we live, so the drive was easy (especially when we are used to driving 5 hours to visit Derrick’s parents! 3 hours is a walk in the park!). And with a 2-year-old, we didn’t have super high expectations of conquering all of the museums and monuments in one day. We were happy to hit the highlights!
We were also happy to take some family photos of Derrick’s cousin! Like I said, Kristin’s husband is in the military, so we really wanted to commemorate the time they had spent in Washington DC as a family before the military moved them on in the world. It was a lot of fun (and a little bit crazy! Turns out, the monuments in DC are super busy with tourists on Saturday afternoons – who would have guessed?)
We arrived on Friday night though & this is the view from their apartment – amazing.
Saturday morning dawned and we had to go explore the view from the roof of their apartment building!
If you can’t tell, Braelynn was having a blast.
Check out this adorable little family! Caius and Braelynn are close in age, so they were quite hilarious together.
Just two men & their strollers.
Kristin! You gorgeous Mama Bear!! Their little one is due in January!
