This is our AMAZING (best day ever!) day spent visiting Universal Studio’s BRAND NEW theme park: Epic Universe in Orlando, Florida. We visited on the very last day of the park’s “preview” event (before the official grand opening) and this is the story of our incredible day.
We had had this particular week-long trip to Florida planned for months and we honestly (hotly) debated: should we try to go to Epic Universe?
At first, the only way to get tickets to Epic (during their preview event) was to have an annual pass or to buy a 3-day ticket for Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, and Epic. Our kids do NOT like dark rides (they aren’t even huge fans of most Disney rides), so we knew that taking them to three days of Universal Parks would just not be fun (for any of us).
So, we said: “We’ll go to Epic Universe next year.”
Then, they changed the ticketing process and staying on Universal property opened up the option to buy a ticket to Epic.
Again, we decided: “Next year.”
THEN, about 3 weeks before our trip, it was announced that Universal was going to open a select number of one-day Epic tickets for ANYONE.
We said: “Let’s see if we can even make it into the queue.”
Derrick got to work, and 45 minutes later, he was asking me the question one more time: “SHOULD WE DO THIS?!”
And I said: “YES!”
And 3 minutes later we were dancing around our kitchen because we’d just made the most spontaneous impulse-buy of our lives – and we were SO EXCITED!
We visited Epic Universe on May 19 – the very last day of the preview event.
We went in with LOW expectations – we figured at most, we might be able to ride 2-3 rides and meet Toothless – while just walking around and enjoying the atmosphere of the lands (which we knew was going to be incredible). But secretly, deep down, we REALLY hoped that the park wouldn’t be busy and we could do so much more!
And, newsflash – the day turned out to be SO much more than we could ever have imagined!
Despite some delays with opening and some rides experiencing some technical delays, we rode EVERYTHING that was open (some things more than one – except the Harry Potter ride), we met Toothless and Princess Peach, we ate DELICIOUS food, we watched the Untrainable Dragon show, we truly had the BEST day EVER.
And suddenly, we’re trying to figure out how in the world we can get back down to Florida SOONER rather than LATER – we LOVED Epic Universe!!
