This past weekend, our home amusement park: Kennywood Park in Pittsburgh, PA opened for the 2025 season! (This is their 127th year of operation – isn’t that amazing?!)
And, you know we couldn’t miss opening day!
This year, the park opened on April 12th – that’s the earliest the park has opened since 1931! AND for 2025, the park is hosting their LONGEST SEASON EVER – running from April 12 thru January 4, 2026 when they wrap up Holiday Lights for the season. WOW!
Even though it was a (very) cold and (very) grey day (how very Pittsburgh), the die-hard Kennywood fans still turned out in droves to celebrate opening day. We were SHOCKED at how many people braved the 41º weather to come to the park!
We were also COMPLETELY SHOCKED that the park had every single ride open and operating (except Steel Curtain, of course) and Phantom’s Revenge even had 2 trains running on the track (which is traditionally unheard of for opening day).
You can tell that park management has really set a grand vision for how amazing Kennywood Park is meant to be. They’ve brought a completely fresh vibe to the park’s facade over the last few years, introduced new shows and events, and expanded on what the park was already doing so well. With the opening of the 2025 season, you definitely get that exciting feeling that there is much more fun in store!
We only spent a few hours in the park on Saturday (did I mention: it was cold?!) but those few hours felt SO GOOD. It really feels like summer is right around the corner when Kennywood opens for the season – we cannot wait to once again spend our summer evenings at Kennywood Park!
Of course, what is a post without photos? Here are a few of the highlights of our day from my iPhone 14 Pro (I didn’t take my “big” camera with me. It was cold and grey and we love to spend opening day ENJOYING the park – there will be plenty of gorgeous, blue-skied, sunny days to take photos later this summer at Kennywood!)
