Derrick & I had a lot of grand plans for the year 2020 & while we still had a great year last year, so many of our plans got re-arranged, re-configured, and re-scheduled – into 2021!
Which simply means: 2021 was an AMAZING year for The Adventuring Abbeys!
Ready for this? In 2021, we drove over 7,200 miles to visit 19 amusement parks up & down the East Coast! We truly had an incredible year riding roller coasters, meeting & making new coaster-enthusiast friends, and spending time as a family.
Here are a collection of my most FAVORITE moments of us adventuring around amusement parks in 2021!
As a quick overview:
In February, we pulled off the biggest surprise of all time when we took our kids to the Great Wolf Lodge in the Pocono’s – not only did we surprise them by pulling onto the property, but we were arriving to spend a 3-day vacation with their cousins (talk about the biggest surprise ever!)
Fast forward to April when we took our first roller coaster riding trip of the year – it was freezing, but we still had a blast at Six Flags Great Adventure with a stop in to Sesame Place!
But the real reason for that trip was to pick up our Sea World Annual Passes because in May, we took a week-long trip down to Florida! We visited Sea World Orlando, Busch Gardens Tampa, Aquatica, Fun Spot Orlando, and Fun Spot Kissimmee. And on our way home from Florida, we stopped at Busch Gardens Williamsburg.
The fun continued as we rolled right into a day-trip out to Knoebels (again, meeting the “other” Abbeys there – this time it wasn’t a surprise though!)
Which brings us to June & a trip to Kings Island on our way to Kentucky Kingdom (for the Keys to the Kingdom event where Derrick was speaking on the panel of roller coaster enthusiasts).
Following that was Derrick’s birthday – and of course we had to go ride some coasters, so we took a weekend trip out to Hersheypark.
And just 2 weeks later, we went back to Six Flags Great Adventure, on our way to Kings Dominion, & finally Carowinds, where we spent 2 1/2 days.
July brought a bunch of weddings for me, so we didn’t travel except to spend lots of evenings at our home park: Kennywood.
By August, we were itching to ride more roller coasters though, so we drove out to Dorney Park, followed by a second stop in to Sesame Place, and finally checking Playlands Castaway Cove off our list of places we wanted to visit!
The end of August is the end of the regular amusement park season, but we weren’t done yet: we planned one last big hurrah! We spent 3 days at Cedar Point, staying on property – it ruined us for ever visiting Cedar Point another way – the experience completely blew us away.
Even though that was the end of our travels, it wasn’t the end of our adventures: Fall means Phantom Fall Fest at Kennywood & November & December brings Holiday Lights (one of our favorite events at the park).
The clips I pulled for this year’s highlight video are my MOST favorite moments from 2021 – but of course, this overview is just the tip of the iceberg! If you can’t get enough & want to see more of our adventures are specific parks, go check out The Adventuring Abbeys Playlist HERE!
As amazing as 2021 was, we are already excited & looking forward to 2022! Where do you think we’ll go next?
