I know I have said this before, and you know I will say it again in the future, but I love shooting engagement sessions! There is just something so fun about celebrating the super short season in a couple’s life that is being each other’s “fiance”. It’s totally different from “just dating”, it’s totally different from “just married”, and it’s totally different from “married for 10 years” (and I can officially say that with confidence since Derrick & I have been married for over 10 years – YIKES does that make me feel old!) There are different variations of love to each of those stages, but I honestly think “being engaged” is one of my very favorites.
Engagement sessions give me a chance to really get to know my couples. We can chat all we want heading into a wedding day, but hanging out for engagement photos simply takes our friendship to a whole new level. And it’s my favorite. I absolutely love setting that foundation, so that I can show up on a couple’s wedding day, more of an “old friend” than just “another vendor”. It makes for a more relaxed wedding day & truly makes the experience so much more fun!
(So, yes, this is my shameless plug, that if you are getting married, whether it’s in a few months or a few years, please make time to do engagement photos with your wedding photographer!)
2020 was a weird year for engagement photos. I technically only did 3 engagement sessions all year & I’ll be honest: I’m a little bummed at that! But I mean, 2020 was a crazy year & there was so much uncertainty around whether weddings would even be able to take place. So many weddings got upended – whether from postponement, venues closing, unbearable restrictions – it was just a crazy year.
