Don’t say I didn’t warn you – but this is probably my longest post ever.
I shot 15 weddings this past year & I cried at every single one of them. It’s kind of become this little game in my head – can I make it through a wedding without crying? I figure, at the very least: the weddings I second-shoot I should be able to make it through. Typically at those, I have never met the bride & groom before, I haven’t established any of the relationship that I do with my own brides & grooms – but nope – I still cry. At one wedding in particular this year, I even toed the “ugly-crying” line – thankfully I have a large enough camera to hide my face, so I don’t think many people noticed.
I simply love every single couple I photograph! And by the time their wedding day rolls around, we’ve had coffee, spent 2-3 hours [sometimes longer if we go out for fro-yo afterwards!] together for their engagement photos, sometimes I’ve been to their house, they’ve introduced me to their pets, given me rides, introduced me to some of their favorite & most beloved locations, we’ve talked on the phone, texted each other, sent countless emails, and then all of a sudden it’s their wedding day. I love arriving and knowing that I’m there to celebrate not just my clients, but my friends.
And there are certain moments during the day I just know will get me: the moment when you hear everyone’s chairs creaking because they’re standing up to honor the bride as she walks down the aisle to her groom – I can’t even think about that moment without my heart going all crazy on me! Special dances always get me too – the first dance between a new husband and his new wife – father/daughter dances. Ugh. I can’t help it.
It’s so hard to pinpoint my favorite moment of a wedding day – moments that make you cry, laugh, feel all warm & fuzzy. Thankfully, I don’t have to pick a favorite. When it comes to choosing highlights from the year – I really wanted to keep this post at less than 100 images. Well, this is my blog and I can do whatever I want & there are a few extra that I simply couldn’t leave out!
So, enjoy some of my absolute favorite moments of all time [I won’t tell you which images I was crying while capturing]:
